The celebration of the European Day of Parks was launched by the EUROPARC Federation in 1999. Traditionally, its marked every year on the 24th of May to celebrate protected areas across Europe with a goal to connect people with nature and raise awareness about sustainable nature management and conservation for future generations.
This year, the EUROPARC Federation celebrates its 50th anniversary and this years‘ theme is “Building on our roots”. On the occasion of this day, Public Institution Lokrum Reserve organised a workshop “Waste is not garbage” on Lokrum island for students of elementary school “Marin Getaldić”. In the first part of the workshop they were introduced with the terms such as waste, biowaste, recycling and composting. The students also learned about the importance of separating waste and waste management through various creative activities.
Our legacy is part of our history, present and future, and taking care of our own cultural and natural heritage strengthens our identity and connects us with the environment and nature. By properly separating and waste managing we preserve our natural and cultural values for future generations.
